Since 1981 the Blaydon Harriers athletic club have organised a road race from Newcastle to Blaydon inspired by Geordie Ridley’s famous song.
This year, staff and cadets from 1509 (Blaydon) Squadron joined in, helping the organising committee with the running of the event.
With over 4000 competitors running the 10km from the centre of Newcastle to Blaydon Town centre, the event brings in top class runners from across the country.
With so many runners, the Blaydon cadets help to marshal the funnels at the end of the race and hand out goody bags and t-shirts.
Squadron boss, Pilot Officer Andrea Tickell said ‘with the event ending in the car park next to our HQ it seemed obvious to offer our support. The cadets really enjoyed the event and the atmosphere.’
As well as supporting the event, cadets were on hand to congratulate Cadet Sergeant Caitlin Harm from 1248 (Prudhoe) Squadron who ran the event in aid of the poppy appeal.
